Cultural & Sport Events
Madrid offers lots of events all year long, whether these are cultural or sport events.
Probably the most famous sport events are the games of Real Madrid, that was the most successful football club in the 20th century. It's stadium can be visited with the Panoramic Tour & Football. But there are lots of other important sport events like the San Silvestre Vallecana Race, which leads the runners through tourist attractions like the Puerta de Alcala, Cibeles and the Art Walk. The finish line is in the Nuevo Vallecas Stadium, that is home to the Rayo Vallecano football team. The Madrid Marathon with about 120,000 participants and 1 million supporters, that takes place on the last Sunday of April is another event that attracts many visitors.
The Vuelta de Espana, which is an UCI Pro Tour, is the Spanish equivalent to the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia. It starts in Granada and after three weeks of cycling finally finishes in Madrid. The Madrid Masters, an important tennis event hosted by the Madrid Arena, is part of the ATP Masters Series.
Bull fights or "Corrida de Toros" as the Spanish call it, are very typical for Madrid. The main area for this is La Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas del Espiritu Santo, which is the largest bullring in Spain and the second largest in the world. The bull fights take place every Sunday evening. While San Isidro is celebrated and during the autumn festival, the Feria d'Otono in the end of September, you can see bull fights every night. Of course there is also a Tour in our program, where you will see a bullfight, it's the Panoramic Tour & Bullfight.
On San Isidro, the Patron Saint of Madrid, is celebrated. This happening starts on the Friday before 15th of May and continues for nine days. Another great and colorful cultural event is the Madrid Carneval, which takes place in February and March every year.
While the Festimad happens in May or June, there are lots of rock concerts, dance events and poetry readings in the city. And even in winter there are big cultural happenings like the Madrid Jazz Festival that attracts thousands of visitors every year in November and December.
