First the guide will explore with you the old quarter of the city, known as Madrid de los Austrias (Habsburg dinasty). Among them, discover the following sites by foot:

  • Plaza Mayor - this impressive and central  square of the capital was built during Philip III's reign and is located close to "Puerta del Sol", another popular plaza of the city.
  • Arch of Cuchilleros - one of the most popular entrances to Plaza Mayor. It is a large entrance which connects the square to La Cava de San Miguel, a street full of bars and restaurants.
  • Plaza de la Villa - a picturesque small square in the heart of Madrid. In contrary to the latter, the buildings at the Plaza de la Villa all have contrasting styles. Here you will see the oldest buildings of Madrid e.g. House and Tower of Lujanes or Casa de la Villa, former City hall of Madrid until 2007.
  • Cathedral of Almudena -  Catholic cathedral which was consecrated by Pope John Paul II in 1993.
  • Plaza de Oriente - a rectangular park that connects the east facade of Palacio Real to the Teatro Real.
After the walking tour through Madrid's old quarters, you are going to visit the Prado Museum which is one of the most famous art galleries in the world. This impressive XVIII century building holds masterpieces of the great Spanish masters such as Velazquez, Goya, El Greco, Ribera and Murillo. Among other international masters, you can also see pieces from the important foreign painters Raphael, Rubens, Bosch, Titian and Fray Agelico.
